You don't need to know what you want before you call me. Most people don't.
What you do know is the person you've lost, how they laughed, what they loved, who needs to be in the room. That's enough to start with. The rest is what I'm here for.
I've spent almost 20 years working across South Australia's wine and hospitality regions, learning how to handle the details of big moments so the people living through them don't have to. This work matters to me because I get to help families put together something that actually feels like the person it's for, how they lived, who they loved, what they'd want people saying about them afterward.
I'll take care of the moving parts. You focus on each other.
Banksia Memorials was created to help families plan memorials that feel personal, respectful, and reflective of the life being honoured.
Banksia is a South Australian service supporting families to shape thoughtful, well-held memorials in beautiful locations across the Fleurieu. Led by local Velvet Oakes, the business is deeply rooted in the Fleurieu Peninsula and surrounding suburbs, driven by a personal dedication to the community and the role that shared moments play in supporting people through sensitive transitions.
Serving families across McLaren Vale, Willunga, Victor Harbor, Goolwa, Port Elliot, Strathalbyn, and all communities of the Fleurieu Peninsula and Southern Adelaide.

The Banksia is a true symbol of the Australian spirit, rugged, enduring, and deeply connected to the land. Its woody pods are built to withstand the elements, acting as a sturdy vault that keeps its seeds safe and protected through every season.
In the natural world, it often takes the heat of a fire for those pods to finally open. This isn't an end, but a vital beginning; the fire acts as a catalyst, releasing the seeds into the wind so they can take root and grow into something new.
We can look at a person’s life in much the same way. The memories, the stories, and the love they shared are held safely, protected and cherished like those seeds within the pod. When the time comes to say goodbye, it is like that natural opening, a moment that allows a legacy to be released.
Just like the Banksia, this ensures that their essence isn't lost. Instead, it scatters throughout our community to regenerate, blooming again in the way we act, the way we care for one another, and the stories we continue to tell. Their strength and beauty never truly leave us; it lives on in the hearts of all who loved them.

Care, connection and respect sit at the heart of Banksia Memorials.
The work is guided by a simple belief: that how something is held matters just as much as what is said or done. With more than 15 years’ experience creating meaningful experiences across South Australia’s wine and hospitality regions, Banksia is shaped by a deep understanding of how people come together. Over time, this practice has become less about the logistics of events and more about the art of reading the room—noticing what is needed and ensuring that nothing feels rushed or overlooked.
By prioritising care, timing, and attention to detail, Banksia creates a space where people can feel supported and at ease, even in difficult moments. At its core, the service exists to offer calm coordination, clear communication, and steady support, rooted in a commitment to the local community so that families can focus on the moments that matter most.

A business is only as strong as the community it serves.
When we curate a memorial, we make a deliberate choice to keep resources within our own neighborhoods. We don't look to large corporate chains; we look to the small businesses and independent experts who live and work amongst us. Whether it’s a family-run vineyard, a boutique florist, or a caterer, we prioritise local partnerships.
By collaborating with these specialists, we ensure our families receive the highest level of care while ensuring our local economy remains sustainable and connected.
When you work with us, you are part of this cycle of support. It is our way of ensuring that as Banksia grows, we are also strengthening the local network of care that looks after all of us.
